Hasmukh Patel (Paresh Rawal) lives in a Gujarati-only residential society. He is a bit regressive and prefers to surround himself with like-minded Gujaratis. His elder daughter (Jinal Belani) is getting married to a Gujarati and he expects his youngest daughter Pooja (Payal Ghosh) to do the same. Trouble begins for him when the vacant house opposite to his is bought by a Punjabi, Guggi Tandon (Rishi Kapoor). Guggi is exactly opposite of Hasmukh – he is loud, consumes alcohol and non-vegetarian and also uses colourful language. Guggi's son Monty (Vir Das) meanwhile falls for Pooja who also gets attracted to him. How Hasmukh tries to keep Guggi in check and thwart Monty-Pooja's love story is what the rest of the film is all about.
