Suhasini Mulay

Biography

Suhasini Mulay is known for playing the role of a mother in some famous Bollywood movies like Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India(2001), Dil Chahta Hai(2001), Humraaz(2002), and Jodhaa Akbar(2008).

Mulay started her career with modelling for Pears Soap in 1965 and gained lot of popularity which soon brought her the lead role in Mrinal Sen's Bhuvan Shome(1969). This movie was a great success and she recieved a National Award for her performance at the age of sixteen. Even after gaining popularity, Mulay discontinued acting as she wanted to continue her studies.

In 1975 she came back to India and worked as an Assistant Director for Satyajit Ray's Jana Aranya, Mrinal Sen's Mrigaya and produced around sixty documentaries and received National Awards for some of them.

Finally the actress made her comeback in Bollywood playing motherly roles. She played Salman Khan's mother in Love (1991). Mulay received another National Award for her next movie Hu Tu Tu(1999) where she played a character named Malti Bai. In the superhit movie Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India (2001) she was seen as Aamir Khan's mother,Yashodamai. In the Hrithik and Aishwarya starrer Jodhaa Akbar(2008), she was portrayed as Rani Padmavati.

Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye and Daddy Cool were her recent releases and both were big flops. Her next release is the Gracy Singh and Aashish Chaudhary starrer The White Land(2009). Some of the movies which are under production are: Rang Rasiya(2009), Bits And Pieces (2009), and Tumhare Liye (2009).

Suhasini has acted in several television soaps likePrincess Dollie Aur Uska Magic Bag, Virasaat, Tithir Atithi, Jaane Kya Baat Hui, Mamta, Piya Ka Ghar, Kulvaddhu, Jabb Love Hua, Maan, and Chaldi Da Naam Gaddi.
